HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

1990 |
A
project aimed at creating a Forum for African Performing Arts is adopted
by the second Conference of Ministers of Culture of Francophone countries
held in Liège. The project is ratified by the summit of Francophone heads
of states. Its implementation is entrusted to ACCT. |
| 1993 |
From
March 27 to April 1, 1993, the first MASA is held in Abidjan, Côte dIvoire.
The 1993 MASA gathers 32 shows from 14 African countries and 416 professionals
from Asia, North America, Europe and Africa. |
| 1995 | From
April 28 to March 4, 1995, the second MASA is held in Abidjan, Côte
dIvoire. That year, the MASA gathers 37 shows from 14 African countries
and about 300 professionals from North America, Europe and Africa. |
| 1997 | From
March 2 to 8, 1997, the third MASA is held in Abidjan. It gathers 47 troupes
from 27 countries, 438 presenters and 191 journalists. |
| 1999 | From February 20 to 27, 1999, Abidjan hosts the MASA for the fourth time. The 1999 MASA gathers 52 troupes from 23 countries, 466 presenters and 189 journalists representing 101 press organs. |
